As many as you sell, if you want to keep your stock at level. Sell twelve pieces a month on average and that is nearly three a week. With unique pieces you do not top up to a number — you buy at a rate, because there is no second example of what just sold.
That turns buying into a rhythm rather than a task. Skip auctions and markets for two months and you only see it on your shelves two months later.
To grow, buy slightly more than you sell — but never more than you can display and photograph. Stock sitting in the garage does not sell.

Divide the purchase value of what you sold in a period by the average purchase value of your stock over that same period. Use purchase prices on both sides: dividing selling prices by stock valued at cost makes your turnover artificially high. Calculating once a quarter is enough for most businesses.
More than your net salary. Between your margin and what stays in your account sit the VAT on your margin, your fixed costs, social contributions of 20.5 % and income tax. Replacing a salary therefore means making not that amount in margin but considerably more — every month, including the months when nothing sells.
